I added this book to my 'to read' shelf after reading another one of Trottier's books and being impressed by her lyricism and delicate storytelling. Sister to the Wolf is a beautiful retelling of 18th century life in Canada and the northern USA.
I really enjoyed Trottier's characterization of both Celile and Lesharo/5(45). Sister Wolf is that kind of book, and Ann Arensberg is that kind of author. It's a short novel, full of contradictions and shifts of mood and pace, but still manages to have a coherent narrative, and a consistent compelling voice/5.
However, the book was well done; Ann Arensburg is quite a good writer, and her prose is simple but sufficient. In the end, "Sister Wolf" seems to be nothing but a story about the difficult love of two people, and the attachment of one woman to her wild animals. However, "Sister Wolf" is saddening but fairly enjoyable, and is a fine light read/5(8).
